Carl L. Elder 1938-2011

Last week another Elder went home to be with the Lord.


 My father's brother, Carl.



Carl L. Elder, 73, passed away Tuesday October 18, 2011, at Oakwood Health Campus.

He was born in Cannelton on August 1, 1938, son of the late Paul and Celestine (Gedling) Elder. He was also preceded in death by a sister Margie Sixx and brothers Joe, Bill and John Elder and a brother, Randall, in infancy.

Carl was a 1957 graduate of Cannelton High School. He was united in marriage on November 3, 1962, in St. Mark Catholic Church to the former Mary Kay Spath, who survives him.

He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and retired from Tell City Chair Company. Carl was a member of Perry County Democrats, had served on the Perry County Council for twelve years and was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus #1172. He had coached Little League, served as president of the Local Union 355 and was currently serving on the Tell City Electric Board.

He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Indianapolis Colts fan. He enjoyed IU and U of E basketball attending games with his son. He also enjoyed spending time attending his granddaughter’s activities and keeping up with technology.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Kay Elder, Tell City; a son, Brian Elder (Debbie), Tell City; daughter, Carla Moman (Tim), Indianapolis; brother, Bob Elder, Ferdinand; grandchildren, Abbey and Hannah Moman and Katie Elder and a loyal companion, his dog, Buddy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 21, 2011 at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Rev. Barnabas Gillespie O.S.B. will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday and from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM Friday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. There will be a Knights of Columbus memorial service on Thursday at 6:30 PM at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tell City Jr.- Sr. High School Athletic Department or St. Paul Catholic Church.
